A statue of the late Congolese Rhumba music king, Franco Luambo Luanzo Makiadi has been unveiled in Kinshasa, DR Congo.
The unveiling, on Monday, coincided with the 26th anniversary of Franco's death who died on October 12 1989 at the age of 51.
The golden statue, which weighs 400 kilos and has a height of 2.97 metres, was mounted at La Place De La Victoire (the place of victory) in the Matonge area of the capital city of DR Congo.
Franco was a popular singer, songwriter and guitarist whose works saw him earn continental and global acclaim.
Among his famous songs include Mamou, Mario, Tres Impoli, Attention Na Sida, Kimpa Kisangameni, Bina Ngai Respect among others.
During the unveiling of the statue, the Congolese government also promised to erect statues of three other famous artistes; Joseph Kabesele, Tabu Ley and Lutumba Simaro.
