Sony Sugar have dropped five players including reserve goalkeepers Ronnie Kagunzi and Jaseck Gathongo.
This follows their signing last week of the 2014 Kenyan Premier League Goalkeeper of the Year Jairus Adira from Chemelil Sugar.
“The two goalkeepers are out of contract and we have decided not to retain them. As the league is getting tougher we need to reinforce all our departments so we have had to release them to create space for a few other new players,” Sony Sugar coach Zedekiah Otieno said.
Other players released by the 2006 league champions are defenders Antony Odinga and John Bosco and strikers Andrew Anton and Kennedy Otieno.
“We have only dropped two players. The rest left out of their own volition and we are in the process of recruiting, a process that should conclude by the end of the year,” Otieno said.
Impressive Charles Odette, who was a nominee for Defender of the Year last season, left Sony early this month for newly promoted Posta Rangers and Otieno said the club was keenly searching for a worthy replacement.
“We are talking to three Premier League players but I cannot reveal their names because they still have weeks remaining on their contract. If we acquire them then we will make the necessary announcement,” he said.
