UPDATE: Scores feared dead after boat capsizes in L. Victoria

Three people have been confirmed dead after a boat carrying about 200 people capsized in Lake Victoria. The incident happened at around 2am today. Rescue efforts to find the missing people are ongoing.

According to Kevin Omondi a witness from Lake Victoria, "The Accident occurred at about 2am to 3am, when a huge vessel from Remba which had close to 200 people heading to Sori, collided with another boat before hitting a huge rock."

According to Omondi, "Officers from Migingo Island were first at the scene adding that rescue operations are currently taking place, where three people have already been rescued."

Omondi added that 10 bodies have so far been recovered.

UPDATE:

21 people have been rescued following the boat tragedy at Lake Victoria.

Police say the boat had initially ferried the 200 passengers that were on board to Remba Island and had only 23 passengers on board when the accident occurred.  Two people have been confirmed dead and no one is missing.
