LAVINGTON: Housegirl disappears with employers gun

Police are looking for a housegirl who escaped with her employer’s gun from their Lavington home last evening. The housegirl is said to have been picked up by a salon car. She also picked unknown amount of money from the house before escaping. The weapon with nine bullets belongs to a city businessman who is a licensed gun holder. A hunt on the woman identified as Florence Nabwire is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a man committed suicide by hanging himself in his house in Kibera slums, Nairobi. The body of the man was found in his house long after the incident had happened. Police picked up the body to the mortuary. in Kaloleni, a fire burnt down several structures rendering many homeless. The cause of the fire is yet to be known for now.

Elsewhere, more anti-riot police have been sent to Eastleigh to quell expected clashes between hawkers and local shop owners. The shop owners have vowed to close their businesses from today to protest a court order that reinstated the hawkers on the streets there. The return of the hawkers led to a clash with the local shop owners for the second day yesterday with many injuries and damages being reported. The hawkers say they have an order allowing them to operate there and have asked police to stay away from evicting them. The Eastleigh business community has protested the order and urged county government and other concerned parties to act to reverse it.

More than 200 motorbike riders have been arrested and charged in courts with different charges following a crackdown launched in the city. The operators have been flouting various rules since Monday when the crackdown started. Police say they will continue with the operation.
