SAD: Two People Including A Senior Government Official Killed In An Accident

Two people including a senior government officer died in two separate road accidents along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

In the first incident a Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officer died after his vehicle collided head on with a canter near Kinale forest on the highway.

The officer was said to be heading to Nyandarua when the private vehicle he was driving was hit by an overtaking canter killing him on the spot.

A witness Pamela Nyokabi said the driver of the canter was overtaking a fleet of vehicles when he hit the private vehicle resulting in a major traffic jam.

“Lorries ferrying vegetables to Nairobi are causing accidents on daily basis despite numerous warnings from police and National Transport and Safety Authority,” she said.

Nyokabi blamed the driver of the canter for careless driving saying he was overtaking dangerously despite poor weather.

“The visibility was poor as the road was foggy and no one understood where he was rushing to before causing the accident,” he said.

A senior police officer who did not want to be named confirmed the incident saying the deceased was alone when the accident happened.

“The driver who caused the accident and who escaped with minor injuries has recorded a statement as part of our investigations,” said the officer.

And in the second incident, a woman died after a vehicle she was traveling in was involved in an accident at Marula area on the same highway about 10 kilometers to Naivasha town.

An eye witness James Lepuruko said the driver of a private salon car the woman was traveling in lost control and rolled several times killing her on the spot.

Lepuruko said it was not clear what happened adding that they saw the speeding vehicle veer off the highway before rolling.

“It was like a movie scene because the vehicle rolled several times throwing out the woman before landing in a ditch,” he said

While confirming the incident, the officer termed the accident as self involving saying the driver sustained minor injuries and was rushed to hospital while the body has been taken to Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
