EXCLUSIVE: Benching Olunga At Girona FC Made Him Better - Toldo Qurya

Radio Jambo presenter cum commentator, Toldo Qurya believes that the transition process at Girona FC which saw Michael Olunga in and out of the first team, was vital for him.

According to Qurya, Girona FC manager, Pablo Machín Diez's decision to bench him for a couple of matches made the player better and stronger mentally.

He says as a result of it all, the 23-year-old Kenyan international earned plaudits across the globe for his hat trick heroics which saw Girona hammer Las Palmas 6-0 a couple of weeks back. Adding that we are set to see more of that from him.

"Olunga has been doing well since he went to Girona on loan from China since at his parent club he was not really performing well but then again you can't compare the quality of Asian leagues to Europe's elite leagues." Says Qurya.

The first few games for him he never looked like the same guy whom we knew, for example when they played against league leaders Barcelona, his touches were not convincing and he committed so many fouls.

After that the manager decided to bench him and help him improve and adapt to the Spanish league and that is what happened.

When he came back his positioning was great and he had adapted to the league's pace and physicality which is totally different from China's and he is currently performing well. So the bench made him better." He added.
