Crystal Palace Sack Frank De Boer After Just 77 Days As Eagles Prepare To Replace Dutchman With Roy Hodgson

Frank de Boer has been sacked by Crystal Palace with Roy Hodgson set to take over at Selhurst Park in the next 24 hours.

De Boer's side failed to secure a point or score a goal in their first four Premier League games, making his reign the shortest in Premier League history in terms of games played, which has led to him leaving the club a little over two months into a three-year deal worth £2million a year.

His 77 days in charge mean he is the third shortest-serving Premier League manager when it comes to time in his job, with the Dutchman also having departed Inter Milan last November after just 85 days.

Sportsmail how the Eagles had stepped up their search for De Boer's replacement, with former England manager Hodgson and Sam Allardyce the two leading candidates, and they have moved quickly to secure the services of Hodgson on a two-year deal.

Palace confirmed De Boer's departure in a statement on Monday, in which they revealed they will soon announce the Dutchman's replacement.

That man is set to be Hodgson, with the 70-year-old returning to the Premier League for the first time since leaving West Brom for the national team in 2012, having previously managed Liverpool, Fulham and Blackburn in the English top flight.

He has been out of work since England's disastrous Euro 2016 campaign, which ended with a humiliating exit to Iceland, but the Croydon native now takes charge of a club he played for at youth level in the 1960s.

De Boer's departure will also see Sammy Lee leave the club, having originally arrived with Allardyce, with Ray Lewington arriving as part of Hodgson's backroom team.
