‘Police won’t arrest the man who raped me,’ cries woman

A man who made a written ‘confession’ to raping a woman in her sleep will not be prosecuted after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case.

Bonny Turner, 41, waived her legal right to anonymity to highlight how she believes rape has been decriminalised by prosecutors.

Miss Turner was allegedly attacked by a man she knew in a London hotel in 2016.

A man who made a written ‘confession’ to raping a woman in her sleep will not be prosecuted after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case. Bonny Turner, 41, waived her legal right to anonymity to highlight how she believes rape has been decriminalised by prosecutors

He left Britain after the incident, but in a written exchange on the Facebook Messenger app she says he ‘confessed’ to raping her.

However, even though he admitted in writing to having ‘made a huge mistake’, the CPS refused to bring charges.

Miss Turner, a counselling trainer, told The Independent newspaper that the refusal of the CPS to act meant rape victims’ chances of winning justice were bleak.

She added: ‘He confessed what he had done. In my view rape has become decriminalised.

‘If a confession isn’t enough to even get to court, there’s no hope for anyone else.

‘I was naive to believe that a voluntarily written admission of rape amounts to prosecutable evidence in the eyes of the UK’s so-called justice system.’

In the exchange on Messenger, Miss Turner told the man she was ‘fast asleep’ when he allegedly forced herself on her.

Above: Miss Turner wrote on Twitter: 'This is about one of my many #MeToo experiences and my struggle to get justice in the broken UK justice system. DO NOT KEEP THIS SECRET'

She says the man replied: ‘I know. I made a huge mistake and have been thinking about how wrong I was since then. Please forgive me.’

He then claimed he ‘noticed too late’ that she was asleep and is said to have replied: ‘That is why I stopped, but I should not have even tried from the beginning. I am so deeply sorry.’

Following this exchange, Miss Turner reported the incident to the police.

She said she was questioned a few days later for five hours at a London police station, and was asked for her mobile phone as well as access to personal information on her phone and her social media accounts.

Miss Turner said she was not told what was taken from her mobile, but later found that police had demanded information from a former employer about a grievance process.

She believes the fact that a complaint she made about workplace bullying was not upheld could have been used to discredit her.

Miss Turner’s case comes after widespread concern this month over plans to require rape and domestic violence victims to give their phones to police or face their cases being dropped.

The man was not interviewed until more than a year after the incident, when British police arranged to have him questioned in his own country.

But nearly two years after her report, she was told no further action would be taken.

When Miss Turner used the CPS Victim’s Right to Review, prosecutors refused to reopen her case.

Baringo Woman wants husband jailed for defiling daughters, infecting them with STI

A woman in Baringo North Sub-county wants her husband arrested for defiling his three daughters infecting them with Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).

As the world celebrated women day on Friday March 8, Sally Chelimo (not her real name) is crying for justice after her three daughters aged 7 and 14 years were being raped severally by their blood father.

“This is a real beast, I want him arrested and jailed for raping my innocent daughters and denying them a good future” Chelimo told media in Kabarnet town today on Friday.

She said she did not return back to her matrimonial home after fleeing owing to a dispute that saw her beastly husband beating her almost to death in December 2018.

“He was a humble and good-looking man when I met him in 1999 before turning wild immediately after engaging in heavy alcohol drinking since 2005.” Chelimo said.

She said besides restraining her from working as a casual laborer in people’s farms in order to fend for her kids, the man who worked as a carpenter, went ahead to beat her with her children.

The suspect went ahead to restrain his children from going to school, threatening to kill them saying they should stay at home and become school dropouts like him.

She said the violent man used to return home every day late and drunk, “he starts beating us randomly in the house, I used to persevere thinking he might change but he got more worse I finally decided to flee away fearing for my life, leaving him with the care of the children” Chelimo said.

Raped

Residents led by the local chief said apart from sharing one mud-walled room the man used to share a bed with all his children including his daughters.

“It just came to our notice through tip off by the neighbours that he used to threaten to chop the girls’ necks if they dare resist his advances” the chief said.

He said since the man divorced his two previous wives he has become hostile in the community and even walks around with a panga threatening to kill every person he spots walking around or talking to her present wife.

Police are currently pursuing the suspect who fled away immediately after noticing his up evil has leaked and realizing he was being sought for arrest.

“He will run but not hide, we will catch up with him to face the full force of the law” Baringo North OCPD Chemongis Ndiema said.

Medical checkup

However Kabartonjo hospital senior clinical officer Sammy Kirwok said all the three girls had bruises owing to forceful penetration into their private parts and were all infected with an STI, which is uncommon in children.

“The elder one had her hymen totally broken although she tested negative for pregnancy” Kirwok said adding that they have all been treated.

Malawi man accused of raping a goat, insists he asked animal for it’s permission first

A man has been accused of raping a goat in a field – after asking it permission for the vile act.

The animal’s owner initially suspected Kennedy Kambani was trying to steal the goat.

But when he returned with neighbours to nab the 21-year-old they caught him having sex with the creature in Malawi, Africa, he told police.

Police Inspector Lubrino Kaitano said: ‘The owner Mr. Pemphero Mwakhulika thought Kambani was stealing it.

‘So he alerted the people.

‘When they arrived at the scene they were shocked to see him having sexual intercourse with the goat.’

Kambani was apprehended and taken to a police station and charged with bestiality.

He reportedly claimed he had asked the animal’s permission first to have sex with it.

The goat had been part of a grazing flock on the outskirts of Mchinji.

The gender of the goat has not been disclosed.

Last November, in neighbouring Zambia, sicko Reuben Mwaba, 22, was caged for 15 years hard labour after he was caught naked raping his pal’s pregnant goat in Kasama.

27 year old man arrested for defiling a 16 year old girl in Maralal

Police in Maralal Samburu county have arrested a 27 year old man after he allegedly defiled a sixteen year old girl for three days.
Patrick Chege was arrested on Thursday after his neighbors became suspicious about his relationship with the minor and alerted nyumba kumi and the area chief.
According to a neighbor, the minor who is expected to join form one next year has been living with Chege for the last three days at his shop in shabaa area in the outskirts of Maralal town.
Area chief Selina Lemakara has cautioned men in samburu county to keep off school girls while looking for wives saying that their education comes first.
At the same time she called on parents to stop treating girls who have finished class eight as adults adding that under the law they are still children who are in need of care and protection.
“Many parents in samburu still think that if their children sit for KCPE they automatically become adults who can be married off or left alone to fend for themselves.” She said.
The minor’s sister mentioned that they have rented in the same compound with the 27 year old man who might have enticed her with ‘ngumu’ a local breakfast delicacy which he prepares in his house and sells to shopkeepers.
The offender will be arraigned in court once investigations are done.

Countries where violence against women is prevalent

An international campaign to challenge violence against women is underway worldwide.

The 16 days of activism began on November 25, and concludes on December 10.

Gender based violence  is prevalent in this list of countries below:

1. DRC Congo

Kinshasa-City-Congo

Congo which is home to over 81 million people is one of the nations whereby women believe it is justified to be beaten at certain occasions. Congo has had a problem with corruption, political unrest, violence, and exploitation.

Females in the DR Congo not only lack basic human rights but according to the country’s Family Code are under the guardianship of their husbands and are even denied the ability to sign legal documents without permission from their spouse.

2. Senegal

senegal

Women who are living in Senegal are mostly influenced by their religious beliefs , customs and traditions. Violence against women include practices such as  genital mutilation, rape, incest, and domestic abuse.

3. Cambodia

cambodia

Cultural and traditional beliefs have greatly influenced the increase of female abuse in Cambodia.Over 15 million people come from Cambodia and unfortunately conservatives here believe that traditions should be retained ruling that women should be soft spoken and that they have no major say in society.

Women have to ensure that they maintain good repute and ensure that their husbands image is not ruined. However , failure to do so results to thorough punishment, which most of the time results to the ladies committing suicide.

4. Zambia

zambia

Zambia is another country whereby its women suffer due to things like lack of adequate rights that fully protect them and freedoms including the inability to own or inherit land.

Other things that fully affect them include  forced marriages, marriage at a young age, high maternal death rates during childbirth, poor education for girls, and an increased vulnerability to diseases such as HIV.

5. Egypt

egypt

Other than most of its people following their religions and customs, the people believe that domestic violence is a matter to be handled in the family and that it shouldn’t go past that. That’s why there haven’t been proper laws that outlaw the practice.

This has also led to women being restricted on a number of things.

Chiefs who mediate rape cases to be axed

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has warned chiefs not to mediate in defilement and rape cases in villages.

He said any chief caught trying to negotiate such cases would be sacked. He spoke yesterday when he met Makueni security officials.

“There is no case with a rapist. Such a person is a criminal and he belongs in jail. Any chief caught mediating in such cases will be sacked immediately,” Matiang’i said.

He said several chiefs have already been charged because of mediating such cases.

Defilement and rape have been on the rise in Makueni.

The CS said the government would increase the number of administrative units in the county to bring services closer to the people.

“We have put in place proper measures to guarantee security,” Matiang’i told a public baraza at Unoa grounds.

Interior Chief Administrative Secretary Joseph ole Ntutu accompanied the CS. He urged the public to help in the fight against illicit brews and gambling. .

Ntutu said gambling was fueling bad behaviour among the youth. He said many of them have become lazy and theft has increased.

“Gambling machines are making kids to start stealing coins from their parents. They are learning bad behaviour at an early age. We don’t want to bring up a society of thieves,” Ntutu said.

Other leaders who attended the baraza were Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu, chairperson National Drought Management Board Agnes Ndetei and former Makueni MP Peter Maundu.

More than 430 gambling machines were set on fire after the baraza.

There is a crackdown on illegal gambling machines across the country that has left investors counting losses. Hundreds of machines have been either confiscated or burnt in the swoop. Matiang’i said they will not relent.
