Bank otuch? Robert Mugabe’s suitcase full of cash stolen

Three people have appeared in court in Zimbabwe, accused of stealing a suitcase containing $150,000 (£117,600) of cash from the country’s ousted president, Robert Mugabe.

The suspected thieves allegedly spent the money on cars, homes and animals.

She allegedly had keys to Mr Mugabe’s rural home in Zvimba, near the capital Harare, and gave the others access.

The other suspects were employed as cleaners at the time of the theft, which allegedly happened sometime between 1 December and early January.

“Johanne Mapurisa bought a Toyota Camry… and a house for $20,000 after the incident,” state prosecutor Teveraishe Zinyemba told Chinhoyi magistrates court.

“Saymore Nhetekwa also bought a Honda… and livestock which included pigs and cattle for an undisclosed amount.”

Mugabe, now 94, was forced out of office by Zimbabwe’s military in 2017.

Up to that point, he had been in power for 37 years, first as prime minister and later as president.

Once famously claiming that a country could never go bankrupt, he was accused of enjoying a lavish lifestyle while presiding over Zimbabwe’s economic collapse.

US dollars are highly prized in Zimbabwe. In theory, the local “bond notes” banks dispense are equal to the US currency – but in reality they buy much less.

Since retiring, Mugabe has had difficulty walking and has spent months in Singapore for medical treatment.

It is unclear if he was at home while the theft took place.

The three suspects have been released on bail. The AFP news agency reports that a fourth is still at large.

POLICE CLOSING in on Grace Mugabe in ivory smuggling probe

Zimbabwean police investigating an ivory-smuggling racket will soon question former ruler Robert Mugabe’s wife Grace.

She is accused of arranging shipments abroad, a government-owned newspaper reported on Friday.

The Herald newspaper, once the mouthpiece of the Mugabe regime, said police were making progress in their probe into Grace’s role in allegedly smuggling ivory to China, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

‘We are closing in with our investigations,’ a police source told the paper under the headline ‘Police tighten noose on Grace Mugabe’.

‘We have also picked up and questioned several suspects whom we believe are linked to the case.’

Documents from the Zimbabwe parks authority allegedly accuse Grace Mugabe of ordering officials to grant her permits to export millions of dollars of ivory as gifts to foreign leaders.

Once outside Zimbabwe, the ivory was routed to black markets.

A police spokesman declined to comment to AFP on Friday.

Grace Mugabe had been tipped as a candidate to succeed her husband, 94, who ruled Zimbabwe since independence from British colonial rule in 1980.

But he was forced to step down in November last year following a military takeover that ushered former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa to power.

Grace has not been seen in public since, but she attended a press meeting her husband held at their house in the capital Harare last month.

She was known for her lavish spending habits and fierce verbal attacks on her husband’s perceived critics.

Name Your Successor, Grace Mugabe Urges Ageing Zimbabwe President

Zimbabwe’s first lady, Grace Mugabe, on Thursday challenged her President husband Robert to name his preferred successor, to end divisions over the future leadership of the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Africa’s oldest leader, Robert Mugabe, 93, has ruled the former British colony since independence in 1980 but has insisted that ZANU-PF, not himself, will choose his eventual successor.

But at a meeting of ZANU-PF’s women’s wing in the capital Harare, Grace Mugabe – herself considered by some to be a possible future leader – contradicted her husband, who also attended the meeting, saying he should name a successor.

Grace, 52, who has become a power broker in ZANU-PF since her elevation to the top echelons of the party in 2014, said Mugabe’s word was “final”.

“There is no succession which will take place without the involvement of Mugabe. I know the president says: ‘No, no, I don’t want to impose a candidate.’ But I have always argued with him that you have a role, you have the right to be part of that process,” Grace said at the meeting attended by reporters.

“Because we respect him, his word will be final. Mark my words, his word will be final. I am asking him right now in your presence … don’t be afraid, tell us which candidate we should back,” Grace said, speaking in the Shona vernacular.

Mugabe did not respond to his wife’s comments but earlier addressed the meeting, where he repeated accusations he made in December 2015 that some in the military leadership were caught up in the succession fight.

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe ‘Not Asleep Just Resting His Eyes’

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe is not asleep when he closes his eyes for long periods during meetings but is resting his eyes, his spokesman says.

“The president cannot suffer bright lights,” George Charamba was quoted as saying by the state-run Herald newspaper.

Mugabe, 93, has been seen apparently sleeping at several events, leading to speculation about his fitness.

He intends to stand in presidential elections next year.

The president is currently receiving specialised medical treatment for his eyes in Singapore.

Mugabe most recently appeared to fall asleep during a discussion panel about “fragile states” at a World Economic Forum meeting in South Africa earlier this month.

There he stated that Zimbabwe was ‘one of the most developed countries in Africa’

“I feel like a failure when there is this reading that the president is sleeping in conferences – no,” Charamba said.

He then compared Mugabe to the anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela, whose eyes were affected by years of working in a limestone quarry while imprisoned on Robben Island.

As Mugabe Turns 93, Citizens May Be FORCED To Foot The Bill For His Party

Africa’s oldest president turned a year older today, celebrating his 93rd birthday. it is said that Mugabe could be spending up to $2million for the lavish event which translates to an estimated Ksh 207,200,000. This is amid complaints from Zimbabweans of the dire state of the country.

It has also apparently been reported in a local publication that citizens are being asked to donate funds and livestock as a show of appreciation to their president. A top firm has also been targeted to bankroll the event & the youth are also said to be targeting 10,000 school buses for transportation to the event.

During an interview, the aged leader spoke of his intentions to not stand down, and how his party – ZANU-PF- still wants him to run for the next elections.

As is tradition, his birthday cake usually weighs as much as his age, so in this case, there might be a whopping 93 kg cake.

Also, state media has reported that 100,000 guests are expected, and up to 150 cattle are said to be up for the slaughter.

WOLOLO! Mugabe Will Die On October 17, 2017, Declares Zimbabwean Prophet

I am already loving 2017! Yes it being only 19 days old (Some would differ since it looks like it is the 19th week of the month) and the world is almost drowning in all these hilarious, once in a lifetime moments.

Yes if you are reading this, Donald Trump is America’s 45th president, Gambia’s Outgoing President Yahya Jammeh has refused to step down after Adama Barrow was elected president last December, and interestingly enough a Zimbabwean prophet has declared the day his president will die.

Patrick Mugadza, the prophet and leader of Kariba Church, has prophesied that the president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, will die on October 17, 2017, According to

Zim News reports that the prophet said that it was revealed to him by God on December 26, 2016, while he was praying. He said God told him that the 93-year-old President Mugabe who is the oldest president in the world and has ruled for thirty-seven years would not see the end of 2017.

“I just want to tell you something concerning the year 2017. It is a very special year because of number SEVEN and at the same time also, 2017 collides with 37 years by which Zanu PF has been ruling this beautiful nation of Zimbabwe, but something is going to be happening also, which is very critical for us to know.

President Mugabe will die on October 17, 2017 – Popular Zimbabwe prophetmugabe

“It was on the 26th of December 2016 when I was in prayer and God said to me this coming year 2017 the president is dying and he told me that he is dying on 17th of October, like I said earlier on that I am not happy for somebody to die but, this is something that is going to happen.

“People may ask me if what he does not die. I do not know how much he believes in prayer but he has to do something about this prophecy, I would not want to force anyone to believe this but I am just saying it because this is what God told me, so it is up to the individuals to believe if it is going to happen or not.” Added the 45-year-old father of two.

He however added that the only way the prophecy can be averted is if the president openly tells the public that he does not want to die.

Forget His Hilarious ‘Quotes’ Robert Mugabe Is A Chelsea Fan!

I bet your eyes almost popped out of their sockets trying to come to terms with your brain that indeed, veteran Zimbabwean leader, Robert Mugabe is a blue, or rather a Chelsea fan! Trust me you read it right.

Since it’s a flashback Friday how about we take you back to 2012 when the 92-year-old confessed to following Chelsea, the then European champions and Barcelona. Smell the irony? When Chelsea were all about ‘parking the bus’ while Barcelona have been all about pretty much attacking football.

Anyway dailymail revealed his allegiance to the London club as he discussed football with a group of Zimbabwean players including former national captain Benjani Mwaruwari.

The New Zimbabwe website reported how the statesman told the then Portsmouth striker he had followed his career, but added that he preferred to watch Chelsea and Spanish giants Barcelona.

He said: ‘Yes, I followed you and watched some of your games, but I am a Chelsea and Barcelona supporter and I always want them to score.’

Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe for more than three decades years, also revealed that he was a keen football fan who demanded peace and quiet when he watched big games on television.

The octogenarian said: ‘When I watch football, I do not want anyone to disturb me.’

He added: ‘Even my wife knows where to sit because while they are scoring in the field I will also be scoring at home, kicking everything in front of me.

‘I have scored a lot of goals at my home, but I can only remember scoring once during the days we played a lot of football as I grew up.

‘It was rather fortunate, too. I just hit the ball towards goal and the goalkeeper was poor so it went in.’

Mugabe spoke about his love for the beautiful game as he met Mwaruwari and other football stars including Senegalese winger El-Hadji Diouf, Nigerian legend Nwankwo Kanu, and Ghanese defender John Pantsil.

President Robert Mugabe Calls Zimbabwean Olympic Team ‘Useless’

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has allegedly instructed the country’s Police to arrest and detain the entire Zimbabwean Olympic Team when they arrive at Harare International Airport.

Zimbabwe which was represented by a team of 31 athletes is among the countries which went home empty-handed. The closest any of the athletes came to win a contest was the 8th position.

Mr. Mugabe who is incensed with the team’s performance told the Police Chief to arrest all the team members and detain them.

“We have wasted the country’s money on these rats we call athletes. If you are not ready to sacrifice and win even copper or brass medals (referring the 4th and 5th positions) as our neighbors Botswana did, then why do you go to waste our money” he said.

He added that, the money invested in the team to represent the country could have been used to provide amenities and build schools.

“This situation is like an impotent man who is married to 5 women, what is the essence? I will make sure we share the cost across board for all of them to pay back to government chest even if it take 10 years recoup, now it turns out to be a soft loan we have given them to go and visit Brazil as tourist, they are useless ‘, he concluded.
