Manchester City's all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero has committed his future through to a testimonial year.

Aguero surpassed Eric Brook's 78-year record last November and has signed a one-year contract extension worth in the region of £220,000 per week.

The Argentina international's former club Atletico Madrid were interested in re-signing him over the summer but Aguero has decided to prolong his stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2021.

'My idea was being here for 10 years,' Aguero said. 'I've been here for seven years, it's going to be 10 when the contract expires.

'This was the main reason I signed. I'm very happy because they have treated me very well since the first day I got here.

'I'm very happy with everything that involves the club, my team-mates, the staff and the management team.'

Aguero, who joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011, took some time to adapt to Pep Guardiola's demands and had considered leaving City during the Catalan's first campaign in charge.
