Shock as an Administration Police (AP) officer shot himself death a day after returning from one month leave in Marigat, Baringo South Sub-County on Monday.

Reportedly, the deceased 50-year old Daniel Chemjor was on a night duty when he sneaked into a nearby bush and took away his life using his G3 gun, a colleague officer said.

“He just resumed duty of Friday after a one month leave, he was not complaining about his job assignment so it may be something to do with family stress” said County AP Commander Robinson Ndiwa.

The deceased officer who hails from Kapsoo in Baringo central Sub-county has worked in his new station for less than a month after being transferred from Mochongoi AP camp in Baringo South.

“He has been complaining of his family and job besides looking stressed since he took his new station” said his colleague.

Ndiwa regretted the incident describing the deceased as a calm officer who was dedicated to his job and has had no bad records.

He noted that the fallen officer may have committed the act following domestic problems including school fees.

The body of the deceased is lying at the County Referral hospital mortuary in Kabarnet town as police investigation is intensified to establish root cause of his death.

However, the County AP Commander called upon his offers to be sharing their inside feelings with colleagues, saying some problems could be solved before getting out of hand.

“Though every human being has got own challenges but it should not get to a point of one taking own life without the notice of his or her friends or relatives” said Ndiwa.

The incident occurs at the time when police officers in Kenya complain of harsh and bad working conditions, worsened by meager salaries without allowances.

Majority of them complain the military forces job is making them poorer especially those depended as sole-bread winners by their families.

This may have however culminated to difficult lives hence resulting to anti social acts like officers committing suicide.
