Everton Confirm Club-Record £45m Capture Of Swansea Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson As Summer Saga Ends

Everton have completed the signing of Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson for a club-record £45million after he completed his medical on Wednesday.

The Iceland international has signed a five-year deal at Goodison Park worth £100,000 a week, ending one of the summer's most protracted transfer sagas. Ronald Koeman's side will pay an initial fee of £40m and two £2.5m add-ons.

Sigurdsson's arrival on Merseyside means Koeman's side have now spent £144m this summer, as the club look to challenge for a Champions League place in the Dutchman's second season.

After completing his move, Sigurdsson said: 'Hopefully I will continue to create goals and score goals for the team and contribute to the kind of success we're seeking at the club.

'This is an ambitious club and it is clear we are moving in a really good direction. The most important thing is that this team keeps winning games and climbing the table - and does that throughout the season.

'For myself, I would like to score as many goals as possible and create as many goals for my team-mates as I can. These are my targets.

'But it is always the same thing: as long as the team is winning I will be more than happy.'

Sigurdsson - who covered more ground than any other Premier League player last season (433km) - is expected to be unveiled to the Goodison crowd ahead of Thursday's Europa League tie with Hajduk Split.
