Ronald Koeman has been sacked by following a disastrous start to the season that has left the club in the 's bottom three.
The Dutchman was informed on Monday by chairman Bill Kenwright and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri that his services were no longer required after they watched Everton capitulate against Arsenal on Sunday.
Koeman leaves after 16 months in charge and the decision will be greeted with delight by Evertonians, who never warmed to him. He faced mounting criticism after results continued to tail off after he oversaw a £140million spend during the summer with director of football Steve Walsh.
It is likely that David Unsworth, the Under 23 manager, will take charge for Wednesday's trip to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and Sunday's crucial Premier League clash at Leicester.
Unsworth, a club stalwart, oversaw the final game of the 2015-16 season when Roberto Martinez was sacked.
Everton will take their time before making a permanent appointment and there will be a number of candidates to consider, headed by Burnley manager Sean Dyche and Watford's impressive boss Marco Silva.
Thomas Tuchel, who is out of work after leaving Borussia Dortmund, and Carlo Ancelotti will also be attracted by the prospect of working in the Premier League.
Koeman can expect to suitably compensated with severance pay - he was on £6million per season - and his brother Erwin, as well as fitness coach Jan Kluitenburg will also be expected to leave.
