Gilgil Students Dropping Out To Join Boda boda Business

The provincial administration has expressed its concern over the high number of students who are dropping out of school in Gilgil to join the boda boda trade.

According to Gilgil assistant sub-county commissioner Patricia Kago, the most affected area was Twendane center, where the number of the operators was on the rise.

She noted that due to their age, majority of the youths did not have driving licenses thus exposing themselves and their passengers to great danger.

“We are deeply concerned by the high number of students who are dropping from school to work as boda boda operators and this is illegal,” she said.

Speaking in Gilgil town, Kago gave an example of Twendane primary school where only four boys had registered to seat for KCPE exams this year with others dropping from school.

“We have also noticed an increased in cases of under-age marriages and there is urgent need to address this by counseling the students,” she said.
