Hundreds of Nakuru residents thronged the Jomo Kenyatta international airport on Friday night to receive Olympic gold medallist Faith Kipyegon.

Kipyegon won the women's Olympic 1,500 metres in August, after unleashing a devastating burst in the second half of the race, leaving Ethiopia's world record holder Genzebe Dibaba trailing in her wake.

Kipyegon had returned from Switzerland where she was participating in the Diamond League.

Following her historic fete, Kipyegon dedicated her women’s gold medal to her boyfriend and family.

She, however declined to divulge the boyfriends name saying he will know once he gets the message.

Five buses were used to escort the athlete to her homecoming ceremony, which will be held at her Ndabibit home in Kuresoi South.

Among those who received her were Kipyegon's father, Samuel Koech; area MP Zakayo Cheruiyo and Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.

They congratulated Kipyegon for her achievement and for putting Kuresoi South on the global map.
