Gor Mahia’s influential midfielder Kenneth Muguna has handed a transfer request as he looks destined for a move to Albanian side FK Tirana. Muguna was reported to be pushing for a reunion with former Gor Mahia head coach Jose ‘Ze Maria’ Marcelo Ferreira who signed him from Western Stima in January turning him to be a dependable pillar at the heart of K’Ogalo midfield.
The 2016 Kenyan Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Midfielder of the Year is understood to be pushing for an exit which his employers have confirmed will only come to pass if his pursuers table an official deal for negotiations.
Muguna, who rose to fame after a stellar season with Western Stima signed for K’Ogalo on a three-year deal in January and has served eight months where he won the heart of the Green Army with his magical touches and most importantly, the defence-splitting passes.
His exceptional display and partnership with Ernest Wendo gave fans a replica of the previous combination of Collins Okoth and Khalid Aucho, who steered Gor to an unbeaten run in the 2014-15 season.
His relationship with Ze Maria was to be good with the tactician reportedly seeking his services in his current club in Albania. However, Gor have made it clear that the midfielder will only be allowed to leave if Tirana table official offers.
Through their assistant secretary general Ronald Ngala, the club has expressed their willingness to engage in talks for his transfer.
“Muguna has handed a transfer request but his pursuers have not made an official approach to us. He has a contract with us and unless we engage in serious and official talks, we will not allow him to leave. If they succeed in the bidding for his services, we will release him,” said Ngala.
He further refuted rumours that the same club is luring their top duo of Jackies Tuyisenge and Godfrey Walusimbi saying: “If they want to sign them let them approach us officially and we will reach an agreement. As it stands, they are our best players and we do not want to be hit by unrest.”
FK Tirana is known to poach from the Kenyan market with several players drawn from the top flight teams finding it hard to adapt and thrive in the Albanian league. The club signed James Situma and Moses Arita, the then league’s second top scorer in 2014 and Francis Kahata in 2014. The club had also signed Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere from Rayon Sport in 2014.
