60-year old woman is hospitalized Baringo County after her drunken son turned wild to assault her before setting on fire the family six houses on Sunday.

Sote Rutto sustained deep cuts on her neck, head and left hand after his son James Rutto chopped her with a sharp-edge machete at Siblio, Baringo North Sub-county.

“I don’t know exactly the cause but he suddenly descended on me with a sharp panga and left me unconscious” Sote told the media on her hospital bed on Wednesday.

She said his son arrived home drunk at around 6 30 pm, he sounded arrogant before threatening to kill her over unstated reasons.

“But at no point have I never taken his words seriously because I didn’t know it would one day get to this extend” she said, wondering where to call home after all her houses where brought down to ashes.

Sibilo Location Chief Joseph Chemitei confirmed the incident saying the suspect has already surrendered himself to the police.

He attributed the unfortunate incident to alcoholism and unresolved family disputes.

Kabarnet Referral Hospital nursing officer Paul Kandie said the patient sustained soft tissue cuts but confirmed her health condition was in stable.

The suspect further torched six family houses before running away and later surrendering himself to Kipsaraman Police Station the following day on Monday.

Baringo North Criminal Investigation Officer (CID) Andolo Munga said the suspect is being held at police station awaiting discharge of her ailing mother from hospital.

“Although he has appeared before the court but his case cannot proceed until we get the clear medical condition of the assaulted patient” said Munga.

However, the suspect’s younger brother Solomon Rutto wants the law to be taken firmly on him saying he has been threatening lives of all the family members.

“If he is released from the hands of police then it is better he dies so that our family members would coexist in peace” said Rutto.

He appeals for humanitarian assistance to resettle the family and buy them clothes after everything got razed down.
