He said any chief caught trying to negotiate such cases would be sacked. He spoke yesterday when he met Makueni security officials.
“There is no case with a rapist. Such a person is a criminal and he belongs in jail. Any chief caught mediating in such cases will be sacked immediately,” Matiang’i said.
He said several chiefs have already been charged because of mediating such cases.
Defilement and rape have been on the rise in Makueni.
The CS said the government would increase the number of administrative units in the county to bring services closer to the people.
“We have put in place proper measures to guarantee security,” Matiang’i told a public baraza at Unoa grounds.
Interior Chief Administrative Secretary Joseph ole Ntutu accompanied the CS. He urged the public to help in the fight against illicit brews and gambling. .
Ntutu said gambling was fueling bad behaviour among the youth. He said many of them have become lazy and theft has increased.
“Gambling machines are making kids to start stealing coins from their parents. They are learning bad behaviour at an early age. We don’t want to bring up a society of thieves,” Ntutu said.
Other leaders who attended the baraza were Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu, chairperson National Drought Management Board Agnes Ndetei and former Makueni MP Peter Maundu.
More than 430 gambling machines were set on fire after the baraza.
There is a crackdown on illegal gambling machines across the country that has left investors counting losses. Hundreds of machines have been either confiscated or burnt in the swoop. Matiang’i said they will not relent.
