School van involved in an accident along Narok- Bomet road

One pupil died on the spot while other three were seriously injured when the vehicle involved in a road accident in Narok town on Tuesday morning.

The 7am incident occurred near Total area along the busy Narok-Bomet road.

The school van belong to Highway Academy within Narok town.

According to Narok North OCPD Joseph Kisombe, the driver of the vehicle lost control of it and landed into ditch.

He said the injured were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital where they are receiving treatment while the body of the deceased was taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Sources within the hospital say the students were in stable conditions and have injuries in limbs and heads.

Kisombe said that the police are looking of the driver of the van who escaped to unknown destination after the accident.

The driver was collecting the students and was heading to the school at the time of the accident.

The car was towed to Narok police station and detained awaiting inspection.

Eye witness John Kamau  said van was speeding from Maasai Mara University area towards the Total petrol station and instead of turning right it rolled three time before it veered off the road for a few metres.

He added after the accident, he rushed to the accident scene and with the help from other members of the public, they started to rescue the survivors.

The police boss warned the road users against careless driving and urged them to obey traffic rules and those found flouting would face the law.
