Nigeria football legend, Augustine Azuka Okocha, popularly known as "Jay-Jay" Okocha is currently in the country where despite cementing his name in football's historical books, he was on a mission to promote professional golfing in the country.

The 43-year-old football legend who is widely regarded as the African Ronaldinho across Europe thanks to his confidence, technique, creativity, and dribbling skills, however couldn't fully escape football related questions during his media junket on Thursday morning.

Among the questions was his relationship with budding football star, Alexander Iwobi, his nephew who turns out for Arsenal Football Club and his journey so far having been at the club for more than a decade coming through the youth ranks, before finally cementing a berth in the first team.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria Iwobi relocated to England as a kid, a country he went on to represent, playing youth football for it's Under 16, 17 and Under 18 sides, between 2011 to 2013.

Despite all that, the U19s coach overlooked the 20-year-old winger and with his chances to play for the England senior team diminishing, the youngster had no choice but choose to represent Nigeria, the country that gave birth to Okocha, his legendary uncle who propelled his nation to the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994.

But was the decision entirely Iwobi's or was Okocha  the man behind it all?

When asked on whether he played any role in helping Iwobi choose Nigeria over England, Okocha didn't even mince his words about it.

"It was totally my decision for Iwobi to choose Nigeria over England." Said the two time BBC Africa's best player of the year.

"I thought if I could convince him to come and play in Africa, it would toughen him at a tender age and make him a better player in the future, since in England he has the privilege of better training facilities, better pitches. After he played his first game for Nigeria, Iwobi called me to thank me. It showed he had matured " Added the Ex Bolton Wanderers and PSG attacking midfielder, who represented Nigeria's Super Eagles for 13 years between 1993 and 2006.

Okocha also believes that Iwobi has many more years to grow and emulate his success and is fully impressed by his development at Arsenal football club.
