Gor Mahia captain and Kenya international goalkeeper Fredrick Onyango believes the team will miss the services of defender David Owino, much in the same way the now ZESCO United player will miss the team.

Owino signed a 2 year deal with the ZSL champions bringing to an end his 3 year stay at Gor Mahia having arrived from Karuturi Sports in January 2012.

Owino settled in fast and quick at Gor Mahia, perfectly filling the void left in the back-line by Erick Masika’s departure and was soon to become a household name amongst the club followers. His stellar performances for club further saw him break ranks in the national team Harambee Stars.

Onyango looks back at the life and times of his former deputy skipper and team mate at club and surely believes both parties – club and David – will miss each other.

“From the time Owino joined Gor Mahia his star was only always going to shine brighter every day. I remember the task that lay ahead of him when he came was big – replacing a very hardworking player and fans’ favourite, but he dovetailed so well in the position and rose to the top,” Onyango said in tribute to Owino.

“He combined hard work and discipline so well and he was always a leader on the pitch. His presence in the team was always appreciated and for sure he will be missed. He showed great commitment and energy in pushing the team to victory and although at times results never went our way, he never gave up on fighting.

“A footballer's dream is to always be at the top and amongst the best, but having a supporting army of fans makes the feeling even better. Owino was a darling to the club followers and this bond will surely make him miss Gor Mahia.

“But his time and chance has come to make another leap in his football career and hopefully his ways will keep opening. Owino is a champion and I wish him well in his new club ZESCO United who are champions too. Keep working hard and take the new challenges positively.”
