The Kenya women's rugby 7s team has qualified for the 2016 Olympics which will be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Lionesses' qualification was confirmed on Friday by World Rugby and the Kenya Rugby Union after South Africa withdrew from participating in the tournament.

South Africa had qualified for the tournament by winning the 2015 African Women's Rugby 7s championship last month after they defeated Kenya 31-5 in the final.

However South Africa will not be gracing their event after the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) made the decision to withdraw them from the Olympics.

The decision will see Kenya represented in men's and women's rugby sevens at next year's olympics games.
