A police officer has been shot dead by armed gangsters in Likoni area, Mombasa.
The officer, Nelson Mwadine, was escorting a canter which was ferrying maize flour to Diani when it was ambushed by the thugs.
The gangsters managed to escape using a motorbike with the officers loaded G-3 rifle and an unknown amount of cash.
Police in Mombasa have in recent times been targeted by gangsters and terrorists and last week they arrested a terror suspect who was believed to behind the killing of an NIS officer, Hashim Omar, in July last year.
The suspect, Ikrima Shosi was arrested at a club in Mombasa and is being detained so as to allow police time to complete investigations.
