Former Tottenham defender Goran Bunjevcevic  has died at the age of 45.

The Yugoslavia international suffered a stroke in April and had been in a coma ever since before news of his passing emerged.

The defender made more than 300 club appearances during his career, representing Graficar, BASK, Rad Belgrade, Red Star Belgrade, Tottenham and ADO Den Haag.

Bunjevcevic showed his qualities early in his career in Serbia before earning a move to England where he made 51 appearances for Tottenham.

He was signed as a replacement for Sol Campbell and despite limited number of appearances, he spent five years at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham wrote via their official Twitter account: 'We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Goran Bunjevcevic.

'The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with his friends and family at this extremely difficult time.'

On Thursday night another of his former clubs, Red Star Belgrade, paid their own tribute and expressed their shock and sadness at the news.

They wrote: 'With great sorrow we have to inform you that former Crvena Zvezda captain Goran Bunjevcevic has passed away at the age of just 45. Words fail us. This is just too sad.'
