Liverpool's unbeaten run in the English Premier League came to an end yesterday as they lost 2-1 to title rivals Manchester City in a highly charged match at the Etihad.

Sadio Mane almost gave the Reds a first half lead but his effort hit the post followed by a goal line clearance from John Stones. Sergio Ageuro strike gave City a first half lead but the Reds were back on level after the break thanks to Roberto Firmino's header.

However, Leroy Sane scored City's winning goal in the 71st minute and despite pressure from Liverpool, City held on to reduce the gap between the two sides to four points as the race for the league title intensified.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have what is known as a title race. And a proper one, now the head-to-head meetings of these teams are done. Match by match, weekend by weekend, they will fight each other by proxy around the grounds. Maybe Tottenham will chip in, too. It should be grand entertainment. Buckle up.

Manchester City are right back in it and deservedly so. They shaded this even if it was an unconventional performance from a Pep Guardiola side, more blood and thunder than tiki-taka.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey is edging closer to joining Juventus in the summer.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Wales international is able to speak to European clubs this month in order to secure a move. However reports of the 28-year-old having already signed a pre-contract agreement with Juventus are premature and he has not yet carried out a medical.

But Juventus are his preferred destination despite interest from a number of Europe's top clubs. Juventus made public their interest in Ramsey on Wednesday.
