History maker, Fatuma Zarika has revealed that given a choice she would have wished to defend her WBC Super-bantamweight title in Nairobi, in front of her home fans.

Speaking in US where she is prepping for her big bout against Jamaican boxer, Alicia Ashley, the very opponent she dethroned late last year to not only become the first Kenyan, but the first Kenyan woman to win the prestigious World Boxing Commission (WBC) world title.

She said:

"Honestly, given a chance I would have loved to battle Ashley back in Nairobi, in front of tens of thousands of of my adoring fans. It would have been a huge honour to defend this title in Kenya." Said the Sportpesa sponsored pugilist.

However, the 31-year-old mother of two claims she knows her fierce rival will come guns blazing in a bid to reclaim the title but she believes she is well equipped to face the Jamaican, thanks to her manager.

"I don't know what I could have done without my manager, who has worked tirelessly to help me improve my game and speed. Sportpesa have also played a huge role in making things easier for me by facilitating my preparations ahead of the June 30th bout. " She added.

Zarika dethroned Alicia Ashley  to claim the WBC super-bantamweight title via a split decision at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint in Michigan, the US.
