A woman has been arrested for torturing and incapacitating her four-year step-daughter for not doing her homework in Embu.

Grace Njoki is alleged to have mercilessly beat the child with a whip on her hands and thighs causing grievous bodily harm.

The girl's father who works as a driver was not at home.

He had left the baby in the custody of his second wife after separating with her mother.

The incident took place at Karurina Market in Embu West Sub-county on Thursday.

Njoki is being held at Itabua police Station awaiting to be arraigned.

"Her teachers reported the matter to police after the victim's brother reported to them, police then launched a manhunt and arrested the woman," a neighbour said.
