9 Gangsters Gunned Down In Mombasa In Two Weeks

Police on Wednesday gunned down another wanted criminal gang member at Bombululu area, bringing the number to Nine killed in the last two weeks in Mombasa County

The suspect was shot dead during an operation conducted a special unit of formed crackdown the notorious criminal gangs terrorizing residents.

Mombasa County police boss Johnston Ipara said three pistols and 47 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspect’s house.

Ipara said the suspect was killed after he attempted to shoot at the  police officers who had raided the house.

“We conducted operation and arrested him in his house; he cooperated with the officers before he went for his Ceska pistol hidden under his bed, prompting the officers to open fire.”said Ipara

Ipara said the suspect had agreed to lead the officers to their hideout before he changed his mind.

He said several household goods believed to have been stolen were recovered.

“They are criminals whose intention is to steal and enrich through other people’s sweat and we cannot allow this to happen here in Mombasa. The fight is still on until we get rid of them. “said Ipara

On Tuesday two suspected machete-wielding gangsters were shot dead in Mombasa's Likoni area.

They were killed in Mtongwe area by police officers as they planned to stage a robbery in Soko Mjinga.

Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich said they were in a group of five that used motorcycles to ambush police officers on patrol.

Six other suspected criminals were also killed in separate incidents in Likoni ,and Kisauni since last week. Four were shot dead by police while two were lynched by irate members of public in Likoni

Early this year, police released the names and photographs of at least eight notorious gangsters who have been staging attacks.

Gangs in Mombasa include the Kapenguria six, Wajukuu wa Bibi, Young Thugs, Chafu, Watalia, Wakali Kwanza and Wakali Wao (Kisauni).

Mombasa residents have protested runaway crimes carried out by juvenile gangs craving lavish lifestyles.
