I know so many people have heard about some of the wealthiest men and women in the world but have you heard about the richest African women?

Oprah being one of the richest women in the world who passed the 1 billion mark year ago with African origin, there are other women from Africa who have popped up making the 1 billion mark as others have passed 100 million in net worth.

1.Isabel Dos  Santos - Net worth $2.8 Billion 

Isabel Santos 44 is the daughter to the filthy rich Angolan President. She is in the board of directors of several companies in Angola including a few media companies and has shares in Angola cement company.

It is believed that her family power and connection is the very thing that has helped her reach where she is right now. Her investments have pushed her over the 1 billion mark making her the first woman to be a billionaire.

2. Folorunso Alakija - Net worth $1.54 Billion 

Folorunso Alakija 66 is a Nigerian billionaire and currently the second richest woman in Africa. She is a fashion designer and executive director of FAMFA oil, a gas and oil exploration and production company which is currently worth over $600 million. Her company owns 60% of stake in the block which has helped her pass the 1 billion mark..

3. Ngina Kenyatta - Net worth $ 1 Billion 

Ngina Kenyatta 84 is the widow to the first Kenyan president the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and is one of the richest women in Africa. Even though she has undeclared wealth which might make her top the list, she is respected for her investments and promoting the family's business that cut across banking, farming, education, insurance, hospitality, manufacturing and real estate.

4. Hajia Bola Shagaya - Net worth $630 million

Hajia Shagaya 58 is one of the richest women in Nigeria. She is a businesswoman and the founder and CEO of Bolmus Group International which is a diversified Nigerian conglomerate company with interest in oil sector, banking, finance and real estate with numerous townhouses in Nigeria's neighborhoods. She also owns property in the United States and United Kingdom.

5.Wendy Appelbaum - Net worth $259.4 million

Wendy 56 is a South African millionaire who became the director of her late fathers insurance and real estate company Liberty investors. Her other investments in Wiphold and Demorgenzon ,a wine estate in the famous wine region of Stellenbosche  has also contributed in making her one of the richest women in Africa.

6.Wendy Ackerman - Net worth $190.3 million

She is a South African tycoon, a Non-Executive Director of Pick and Pay holdings limited. She also runs the Ackerman family trust and her husband owns 50% of the pick 'n' pay. The $ 3 billion South African company has outlets in different countries in Africa that include Nigeria,Zimbabwe,Mozambique, Namibia,Zambia with Ackerman acting as the Executive Director.

7.Irene Charnley -  Net worth $150 million

Charnley 57 first made her mark on the African business community as a negotiator for South Africa's National Union of Mine workers where she spent 13 years coordinating various divisions of union operations. She went on to become an executive director for the MTN Group, which is Africa's largest telecommunications company.

Under her leadership several African and Middle Eastern countries (including Nigeria and Iran) were connected into the MTN network Charnley was behind the founding of the National Empowerment Consortium made up of 50% black business owners and 50% black African laborers They eventually owned 35% of Johnnic Holdings (now called Johnnic Communications).Charnley left MTN under controversial conditions but she was worth US$150 million when she left.
