Manchester City were crowned as the Premier League champions on Sunday.

Vincent Kompany labelled Liverpool as 'exceptional' as Manchester City's clinched the  title win on the final day of the season.

The City skipper insisted that the Reds 'did not deserve to lose' the title race having pushed 's men all the way.

City impressively finished the campaign on 98 points, one point ahead of 's Liverpool side but Kompany was sure to applaud them for their efforts after City's 4-1 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

'Back to back…. I think it was the hardest and most satisfying Premier League ever,' Kompany said after the game. 'Liverpool were exceptional this year – I don’t mean to rub it in they did not deserve to lose it today.

'We’ve played against such a good team. We won at home at the Etihad and until now we’ve managed to stay ahead.'

Vincent's father is called Pierre Kompany, a father of three.

The election of Pierre Kompany, 71,  as Belgiums first black mayor was celebrated by his son in a video message in which he spoke three languages.

, 32, who was born in the Brussels suburb of Uccle, and his younger brother, François, who is also a professional footballer in the Belgian leagues, spoke of their pride in French, Dutch and English in the clip. “Just for the guys abroad: he is the first black mayor in Brussels,” he said. “It has never happened before. It’s historic. We are all happy. Congratulations to my dad.”, according to the Guardian.

The footballer added in a short written statement: “History! We are so proud of you dad. Come from DR Congo as a refugee in 1975. Now you have won the trust of your commune by becoming the first black mayor elected in Belgium! It was long but it is progress. Congratulations!”

2. Pierre Kompany was born Bukavu, Belgian Congo, migrated to Belgium where he worked as a mechanical engineer

3. He served in a regional parliament and became mayor of Ganshoren, Belgium.
