Bandari have confirmed their acquisition of Sofapaka midfielder Anthony “Muki” Kimani for a fee of Sh350,000.

This is the first big signing by the coast-based side as they look to revamp for a genuine assault at the league title next season.

Bandari technical director Edward Oduor said the internationally capped player was in the coastal city of Mombasa late last week where he penned a deal to feature for the glory-chasing side.

“Kimani has been with us for a while now, and he was a senior player. We have however released him to make way for new players and we wish him the very best in his new club,” Sofapaka president Elly Kalwekwa said.

Kimani was voted the Kenyan Premier League’s best midfielder back in 2009 while at City Stars, a performance that caught the eyes of Sofapaka who went on to sign him ahead of the 2010 season.

He featured for Kenya in the 2010 Cecafa Senior Challenge in Tanzania, as well as the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“He is the first player we have signed, but we are talking with some more so that we can bolster our squad before the end of the year,” Oduor said.

Among the players that the Kenya Ports Authority-sponsored team are chasing is the City Stars duo of Lawrence Kasadha and George Abege. Oduor said they were also looking to enter into a pre-season agreement with Thika United midfield ace David Kingatua whose name had been proposed by coach Twahir Muhiddin.

“We are finalizing talks with Kasadha and Abege so hopefully they will be our players by the end of the week. The coach has also recommended that we get David King’atua but we have found out that he is still contracted by Thika United until February so we are still weighing our options,” he said.

Thika United have however told interested parties to keep off Kingatua.
