60-year-old Night Guard Killed, Car Battery Stolen In Kerugoya

A 60 year old night guard was on Wednesday night killed by thugs in Kerugoya town.

Kirinyaga Central OCPD Yawa Chome while confirming the incident said David Githiomo was killed by robbers at a garage he was guarding and they made away with a lorry battery and bumper.

The OCPD said police have launched investigations to establish the motive of the murder. He said the body has been moved to Kerugoya level 4 hospital mortuary.

A witness who spoke to the Star but did not want to be named said he saw a pick up vehicle drive into the garage around 11.00 PM before he heard a wail allegedly from the night guard.

According to the witness who spoke at the scene, three people alighted from the pick up, and wore masks to hide identity.

Chome said Githiomi was hit on the head by a blunt object and police received information at around 5.30 AM on Thursday.

The murder of the night guard took place just a few meters away from the homestead where a sixteen year old form three Meru student was murdered in her parents house in November last year.

Area residents are now calling on police to intensify patrols in the area and beef up security to avert crime which is on the increase.
