Chebukati Rules Out Resigning, Says IEBC Is Intact And Ready For October 26th

Chairman of the IEBC Wafula Chebukati says he will not resign despite challenges at the commission ahead of the October 26th repeat presidential elections.
Chebukati says the commission is intact despite differences of opinion among commissioners and he has assured that the polls will go on as planned.

He says they have decided as a commission to stay put and deliver on their mandate on the elections.

Chebukati denied claims that he had walked out of commission meetings because of differences with his colleagues.

Chebukati says all the five presidential candidates will be on the ballot paper because paragraph 71 of the recent high court ruling on Ekuro Aukot opened the door for all other candidates to be included.

"There may be differences in opinion but the commission is united and committed to deliver a credible, free and fair elections", said Chebukati.

He was speaking in Eldoret during a training for election officials. He will visit six training centers in Rift Valley and Western.
Chebukati says the commission will go ahead to include NASA leader Raila Odinga on the ballot paper because he is yet to withdraw as per the law.

"We have not received any other communication from him and we are proceeding with all plans as scheduled", said Chebukati.

He said he does not foresee a situation where NASA will block elections in its stronghold areas.
"Our mandate is on elections and we are ready in all areas. There are other institutions to ensure that we do our work smoothly", said Chebukati who was with returning officer for Usin Gishu Jackstonne Nyonje.
