Doctors remove bullet lodged in 2-year-old girl shot in demonstrations in Kisumu

A bullet that was lodged in the shoulder of a baby shot in anti IEBC demos in Kisumu has been removed.

Doctors removed the bullet after a long surgery on 2-year-old Mary Shantel yesterday.

The girl is a second born in a family of two children. Her elder brother is four-years-old.

The mother of the girl, sadly lost her husband three months ago, and says the young girl was shot in their home in Nyamasaria.

She says the child was playing three others when she suddenly fell down.

'We run towards her because we were around and thought she as hit by a stone on the shoulder and rushed her to the hospital at Jaramogi Oginag Teaching and Referral facility', she said.

She added that at the hospital, an x-ray was done and doctors discovered the bullet lodged in the shoulder.

The mother accompanied by other family members, said the the child took around four hours in the theatre as doctors fought to save her life, before they were allowed to see her.

She however wondered whether the two year old in their compound was demonstrating.

'There was no protest going on in our compound and wondered why the bullet hit our daughter,' she said.

She added that currently the girls is in no pain and after discharge they still don't have money to buy medication they were prescribed for.

The mother is calling upon well wishers to help them.
