EIGHT THINGS YOU MISSED from Man United 2-1 Leicester

- Manchester United started the Premier League season by beating Leicester 2-1

- Paul Pogba scored first with a penalty after pulling rank over Alexis Sanchez

- Gary Neville got soaked by a sprinkler during Sky Sports' pre-match coverage

- The pre-game team lineup graphics saw Harry Maguire strike an amusing pose

beat Leicester City on Friday night to get the 2018-19  season underway.

opened the scoring with a third-minute penalty and Luke Shaw bagged his first goal for the Reds, before Jamie Vardy nodded in a late consolation strike.

There was plenty going on at Old Trafford so Sportsmail's ROBERT SUMMERSCALES has rounded up some things that you may have missed.

Pogba pulls rank

Alexis Sanchez won the penalty for United when his first-half shot defected off the arm of Daniel Amartey, via Wes Morgan.

The former Arsenal playmaker appeared keen to take the spot-kick himself but captain Pogba pulled ranked after a serious discussion.

500 up for Jose

Pogba's converted penalty was the 500th Premier League goal scored by a Jose Mourinho team.

Just 124 of Mourinho's 501 PL goals have been scored by United, with the other 377 coming during his time at former club Chelsea.

Slo-mo spot kick

Pogba took an age to score from the spot as he performed one of the slowest run-ups the Premier League has ever seen.

When he finally arrived at the ball, his shot was hammered emphatically into the top corner, but that did not spare him from getting the meme treatment on Twitter.

Neville gets soaked

Former United captain Gary Neville returned to Old Trafford as part of Sky's punditry team on Friday night.

Neville was showered with applause by his United's fans.

Southgate scouts

England manager Gareth Southgate was in the stands at Old Trafford to cast his eye over some potential picks ahead of next month's international break.

Southgate, who sat next to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, will have enjoyed seeing left back Shaw score his first goal for United.

Foxes concede first Premier League goal for third season running

For a third straight year, Leicester were involved in the Premier League's annual curtain-raiser.

Not only have they lost all three of those season-openers, they have always conceded first.

Leicester lost 4-3 to Arsenal last August, after suffering a 2-1 defeat by Hull 12 months earlier.

Mourinho starts strong again

Unlike Leicester, United boss Mourinho has a habit of starting seasons well.

This was the 10th time he has been in charge of a side's opening Premier League fixture and he has never lost one — winning nine.

Lineup photo fun

With the start of a new season comes newly-shot lineup poses.

Leicester ace Harry Maguire was seen rubbing his hands together in the moving pre-match graphic, which used footage recently taken in front of a green screen.

One Twitter user joked that the defender looked like he was offering to make a round of tea.

Wilfred Ndidi looked like he had an itchy elbow, while Pogba wore a smug smirk — as if he knew he was going to be the main man against Leicester.
