Nyeri man facing rape charges granted Sh1million bond after he denied charges

A priest of Africa Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa, Joseph Karuga Muraguri, in Nyeri, was charged over a gang rape of a woman which took place on 12 January at Ruring'u Estate Nyeri town.

This is after he was in police custody as was requested by investigative police Nuru Abdullahi on Tuesday.

Nuru asked the court to grant detectives five days to conclude the investigation, the magistrate granted them the opportunity and ordered the police to hold the suspect since he was the prime suspect.

On Thursday, Joseph muraguri denied the charges when he appeared before senior resident magistrate Maisi Chesang and was freed on bond. As the woman cried for justice, the priest was released on a Sh1million bond or Sh 200,000 cash bail.

The police are yet to arrest his co-accused.
