Kenyans bash politicians over wrong Kenya Sevens congratulatory messages

On Sunday 17th April 2016, history was written after the Kenya Sevens Rugby team won their first ever world rugby title in seventeen years at the HSBC Singapore Sevens World Series, by thrashing defending champions Fiji 30-7 in the Main Cup finals, sending the entire nation into absolute euphoria.

We made it! Every Kenyan, young or old was celebrating the once in a lifetime moment courtesy of our glorious Shujaa team, who beat all odds to win against one of Rugby's powerhouse after 140 unsuccessful sevens competitions.

As usual, Kenyans who were recently voted most active country on Twitter in Africa took to all social media platforms to shower their praises on the nation's latest heroes, with organisations and politicians also following suit. However, as much as most of these politicians tried to swing into the celebratory mood and show their support, some clearly did broadcast the need to enroll for some sports lessons or rather have a well printed sports calendar full of every events which involves our sportsmen and women.

This is after a number of politicians were on the receiving end of Kenyans on social media after sending the wrong congratulatory messages to the Kenya sevens team.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale were among the first leaders who took to social media to congratulate the team, with the two failing to differentiate between the Rugby World Cup and the World Rugby Sevens series.

Tourism CS also found himself in a lone jungle, congratulating the team for winning..... wait for it.... Singapore open!

Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula also found himself in the clueless bandwagon, congratulating SAFARI SEVENS,  a rugby tournament!!.

Below are some of the reactions from Kenyans on social media:
