Malkia Strikers Trizah Atuka's Plan To Help Jigger-infested Families Will Warm Your Heart

Malkia Strikers player, Trizah Atuka is a woman with a golden heart, a humble heart that has seen her touch thousands of hearts, thanks to her prowess in the game as well as her heart warming mission to make the world a better place.

Late last year the multi-award winning Kenya pipeline team captain embarked on a mission to help kids from families suffering from jigger menace in her Lukanji village, Kakamega county.

Together with a team of well wishers, they managed to accord the affected parties proper treatment as well as donate clothing, shoes and provide monetary support which was channeled towards everything required for their treatment.

However, her biggest challenge was the lack of enough resources to cater for the close to 100 residents who turned out, exceeding the targeted number.

Atuka through her Atuka foundation  is back and willing to touch more souls in another anti-jigger campaign clinic which is set to take place this Saturday (June 2nd 2018) in Lukanji, village.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Jambo, the Malkia Strikers' blocker is confident this time round with the help of Kakamega county government and other willing partners, they will be able to reach out to more affected parties.

She revealed that the Kenya Red Cross society are among the well wishers who have joined on board ahead of the Saturday clinic and are willing to send volunteers as well as facilitate an ambulance.

Below is a transcript from our interview.

How was your first initiative? : My first initiative was quite successful, though we were not able to cover everyone who turned up because of the limited resources. We had budgeted for a few people but more people turned out which shows that many people need help out there and that motivated me to organize more clinics.

How many clinics will you be conducting: My plan was to have at least three clinics a year; In April, August and December depending on the resources we have.

Last time you guys managed to raise approximately 120,000?: Yes it was around that amount and I had saved some cash which I had decided to give back to the community so I used the cash when that idea came up plus I had friends and well wishers who helped in contributing clothes and shoes.

How is the support this time:  This time round I'm are working on creating a connection since people won't be contributing money everyday. If we have connections from the likes of; The county government, health workers, Red Cross come on board and share our ideas that way we can be able to achieve our objectives.

How many people are you targeting this time: Last time I had targeted around 30 people but we had up to 100 people turning out, so you can imagine with the mobilization on the ground, we can expect up to 200 people since we are targeting not only Lukanji village residents but also neighboring villages.

Is the Kakamega county government supportive of your initiative: I have been able to reach out to the area MCA and he was positive and said he will help out in any way he can. I have also reached out to Red Cross society and since it was on short notice, they said they will send volunteers as well as see if they can facilitate an ambulance on that day (Saturday, 2nd June)
