Meet Steve Otombo, the university student who was stabbed over a DJ competition

To his pal, Steve Otombo was a brilliant, stylish and jovial pal to be around. The news of his sudden and brutal death has left them shocked.

Steve was a student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University, he has been stabbed to death after a DJ competition at Dala-wa club turned chaotic.

The third-year student was pronounced dead on arrival at Bondo Sub County hospital.

Bondo deputy county commissioner Richard Ojwang said the competition turned chaotic when the losing party felt aggrieved.

Ojwang said the group walked out in protest and immediately started throwing stones at the winning team who also retaliated.

The commissioner said the 2 pm incident turned ugly when a physical fight among students and residents erupted leading to the death of Otombo.

Otombo was stabbed in the chest by the yet to be established culprit who is still at large.

John Ouko wrote, on the Chulaimbo High School Old Boys group, saying, "Rest in peace Steve Otombo. I am very sad we lost you this early, class of 2014, Form 4 West."

Nicholas Juma added, "May the killer of Steve Otombo not have peace."

Leonardo Magraphity shared, "We will really miss you my beloved friend...Rest in peace Steve Otombo."

Angry students went on a rampage later in the evening protesting the killing. They set ablaze the bar paralyzing operations and disrupting business.

Tension remains high at the university as the police engaged in running battles with the students on Friday evening.
