With the round of 20 matches set for last weekend postponed, the governing body has once again braved another decision to reschedule the round of 21 matches, citing political instability in the country.
In a letter addressing the amendments, KPL wrote: “Following consultations with the chairmen of KPL clubs, the 2017 SportPesa Premier League Round 21 matches, which were scheduled to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday , have been postponed. This discussion has been taken in light of the political situation of the country at the moment which has made it difficult for players and technical staff to report back to their clubs for the purpose of engaging in meaningful training and preparation to honour those matches. Round 20 matches which had been rescheduled to the weekend of August 19/20 will, however, go on as planned as the situation continues to be monitored.”
Defending champions Tusker FC were set to take on Kariobangi Sharks at Ruaraka before paving way for Nakumatt and Muhoroni Youth. The 15-time champions Gor Mahia were to battle Sofapaka at Nyayo Stadium with Posta Rangers hosting Thika United at the same venue.
The 2008 champions Mathare United would have played 12-time champions AFC leopards at Nyayo Stadium while Zoo Kericho were to play host to Kakamega Homeboyz. Nzoia Sugar had a date with fellow millers Chemelil Sugar at Sudi Stadium. The 2010 champions Ulinzi Stars were to revive their poor run against Sony Sugar at Awendo while Western Stima were to lock horns with Bandari at Moi Stadium Kisumu.
