On Friday morning, presenter, hosted up and coming Kenyan artiste, Maureen Wanyama popularly known as Moh Nanah.

The little known Moh Nanah already has three songs to her name; Jibambe, Nakhuyanza and Sema na moyo since she went solo in August 2018, an impressive fete.

She revealed that despite her being in the industry for less than two years, her dear mother a staunch Christian, was against her venturing into secular music.

Read:

Her mother was afraid that her daughter's career move would put her in bad light especially among her peers - this despite her receiving unwavering support from her father.

My mother was against me singing and she would remind me that as a staunch Christian, her singing secular songs would put her in bad light. But I think with time she understood that I love singing and she had to support me since my dad has been supporting me all along."

But how did she venture into music?

I started out in 2016 in a group of three, dubbed 'Black three' which comprised of my brother and his male friend and together we recorded three songs. At the time we were not that serious back since we were all in school. Said Nanah.

Nanah is a Jack of all trades when it comes to music, who's fearless approach has seen her venture into different genres.

I don't have any specialty and I have explored different genres including Bongo, Ragga and Afro pop. She added.

So what really inspires the Jibambe artist and what motivated her into venturing into the already crowded industry?

I have done secular songs and everything that I put out here is purely dependent on what I am feeling at the moment. For example, if I am all about love and romance, that is what I will sing about and I feel like letting loose I'll sing about Jibambe.

First of all, it's all about what one loves and for me to sing it is because I love it and I am talented. As a lady I think if you want to do anything, go for it! Said Nanah.
