This comes months after NASA leaders accused him of meddling with the country's political affairs.
Mr. Godec was speaking earlier today on Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi breakfast show where he stated that contrary to the claims, he never took sides adding that his vision was to see Kenya have the best possible elections.
"It is not true, very simply I did not take sides in the Kenyan elections. I did not favor one political party or one candidate over another, neither did the United States more generally or my mission." He said.
What we sought to do was to ensure Kenya had the best possible election, to strengthen democracy, to build the institutions. Frankly the system was under attack and across time, I both publicly and privately criticised both sides. Added Godec.
This prompted Gidi to ask what his role was in the elections and whether he actually endorsed the entire process.
He responded,
What we did after the August 8th elections is we waited for the IEBC to announce the results, we waited for the observers to make their comments about it and then there were complains which were raised by the opposition.
What I did was to urge Raila Odinga and the opposition to go to the Supreme Court, to use the constitutionally mandated mechanism to address the issues and they ultimately did that. No I did not endorse the results.
After six years in Kenya, Godec became not only the longest serving US ambassador to Kenya but also the longest serving American ambassador anywhere in the world, surpassing the normal length of three years.
After claims that he endorsed the government in the past elections, NASA leaders called upon his sacking and that yielded the question on whether he was sacked or being re assigned somewhere as a result of that.
