Police in Baringo, Tiaty Sub-county are investigating a murder case where 22-year old man was allegedly killed amid dispute over 13-year old girlfriend.

The suspect Lodomoki Kokon, 23, fled after realizing he had killed his opponent Musa Lomada, 22 in cold blood over a girlfriend.

“The incident occurred almost three weeks ago but it was reported to us today on Wednesday, the suspect is still at large and so we are still carrying on with investigation to arrest him,” Ng’inyang OCPD James Musyimi told Star today.

The incident happened at Nasiwilet village in Tiaty East Sub-county, on unspecified date of the third week of July 2018.

Cleansing

Musyimi said already the two families have decided to resolve the murder case through  a traditional dispute locally known as ‘Labai’ that involves payment of certain agreed number of livestock.

“What they reported to us today is just a case of where the kin of the aggrieved family went ahead to take some livestock forcefully from the suspect’s home without consulting” He said.

A Source hinted the Star that some 200 goats were agreed upon to cleanse the bad blood between the two families.

“Only some 100 goats were paid in half while the remaining was agreed upon to be paid later slowly,” A resident Yano Lokomol said.

Lokomol said the suspect is on the run since then while the aggrieved family is yet to get justice while we already reported the case to Ng’inyang police station.

He said the agitated assailant went to the deceased’s home to settle a girlfriend dispute, a fresh fgm initiate, before they picked a quarrel that later broke into a fatal fight.

“The suspect lashed his opponent with a cane several times, one that got him on the neck may have caused blood clot resulting to his instant death,” Lokomol said.

The girl is among thousands of pokot girls aged 10 to 14 years who just graduated after undergoing the ongoing outlawed Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in pokot land this August holiday.

Traditionally the girls are being married off immediately to earn their parents wealth in terms of dowry paid in form of livestock.

A pokot man irrespective of age has to part with at least 60 goats, 30 cows or 10 camels depending with family agreement to be handed a circumcised young girl as a wife.

It is in the same place where a 13-year old pokot girl was beaten and killed by six heavyweight warriors for refusing to marry a 60-year old grandfather.

‘Labai’ has already been done for cleansing while the six killer suspects are still at large. Ends
