AU special envoy Raila Odinga on Wednesday met and held talks with the visiting Democratic Republic of Congo president Felix Tshisekedi.

The Congolese president is in the country for a two-day official visit and is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Raila broke the news about their meeting with the president, who was elected barely two weeks ago, via his his twitter handle.

Raila appears to have met the newly inaugurated head of state in his capacity as the special ambassador for infrastructure.

They discussed issues of "mutual interest and cooperation", focusing mainly on areas of infrastructure development on the continent.

The tweet read; "Held talks with President Felix Tshisekedi of the DRC who is visiting the country focusing on areas of mutual interest and cooperation with a particular emphasis on the role of infrastructure in development on the continent."

It will be remembered that the ODM leader accompanied President Kenyatta to Congo during the inauguration of the President.

Kenyatta was the only sitting head of state in Africa that attended the feat, an act that appears to have warmed the heart of the new leader.

This could be the reason why he chose Nairobi for his first official foreign trip as President.

Raila was accompanied by Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma.

Others were his son Raila Junior and his communication officer Dennis Onyango.

It is said Kenya played a key role in the concluded Congolese elections with an interest to have a sway on its vast mineral trade portfolio.
