Relatives Of Killed GSU Officers Claim They Have Not Been Compensated 7 Months Later

Relatives of the 12 GSU officers who were killed in last year’s accident in Naivasha which claimed the lives of 45 people are now crying foul over compensation.

The relatives claim that seven months after the officers who were attached to the presidential escort were killed, they were yet to get a word from the State.

This emerged during a special mass held by the Catholic church at the scene of the accident in Karai Naivasha which was attended by hundreds of faithful and relatives of the deceased.

The accident occurred after a lorry with Ugandan number plates lost control and rammed into a fleet of vehicles which burst into flames burning those inside.

According to Solomon Wanjohi whose son was among the GSU officers who died, they had not heard from the government since the fateful incident.

He said that they had been promised that one relative would be recruited to join the uniformed forces but this too had not happened.

“We are asking the President to intervene as we solely relied our sons who died through the tragic accident while serving this country,” he said.

Nakuru Catholic diocese bishop Maurice Muhatia who led the ceremony termed the accident as one the darkest moments for the country.

He called on motorists to be keen while on the road adding that speeding and careless driving had contributed to the number of accidents in the country.

“We should continue to pray for the country and for the road users so that we do not record such accidents in the future,” he said.
