Seven people have been arrested for brewing illicit alcohol in Mogoiwet in Narok South sub-county.

In an operation conducted by administration police officers from Mulot, over 1,000 litres of illicit brew was also destroyed.

According to Inspector Peter Muruiki who led the operation, 10 litres of chang'aa was also nabbed.

“The area has become notorious for illicit brewing and the operation was just a beginning. We shall not stop until we totally ensure the area is free of the illicit drink," said Muruiki.

He said most criminal cases being reported at the division come from the area and challenged those engaging in the unlawful practice to embrace other sources of livelihoods.

“Most pupils from the area have dropped out of school because parents have absconded their responsibilities. Instead of engaging in productive ventures. Most resort to drinking,” he said.

He appealed to the residents to cooperate with the police in tracking the brewers in the region as they government would not relent the fight against the illegal liquor.
