Two People Including A 16-year-old Boy Commit Suicide In Naivasha

Two people including a 16-year-old boy have committed suicide in Naivasha in two different incidents that left area residents in shock.

In the first incident, the body of the teenager who was said to be mentally unstable was found hanging from his bedroom on Monday morning in Kinungi village by the grandmother.

The incident came barely a week after two men from the same village committed suicide due to marital problems in incidents that left area residents in shock.

The first man dived in a dam after his wife left him while the second man drowned after jumping into a drum full of water after his estranged wife demanded Sh1,500 monthly upkeep.

In the latest incident, the teenager according to a neighbor Simon Karima had retreated to his room on Sunday condition in good spirits.

He said that they were woken by screams from the deceased compound after the granny found the teenager hanging from the house.

“The granny had gone to enquire why the teenager had taken too long to wake up only to find the body hanging from the ceiling,” he said.

Area Chief Michael Ng’ang’a confirmed the incident adding that the teenager had been mentally unstable for some time.

“Though he had some mental challenges no one contemplated that he could take his life as he was a very jovial teenager and well known in this village,” he said.

And in the nearby Kijabe center, a 25-year-old woman committed suicide using a rope after finding that his fiancée had another girlfriend.

Emotions gripped the sleepy village as relatives and friends tried to come to terms with the incident that left many in shock.

The couple according to neighbors had planned to wed this year but the deceased found out that the man had another relationship and even a child with another woman.

A witness only identified as Kibe said that the woman was left depressed and had locked herself in her room over the weekend before taking her life on Sunday evening.

“We were shocked when we received the information that the woman had decided to commit suicide as she could not bear the loss of her man,” he said.

A senior police officer confirmed both cases adding that the two bodies had been collected and taken to Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
