Wahome Gakuru And Eye Witness Challenge Among The Top Kenyan Searches

Google has released the top trending searches in Kenya for the week of 5th - 12th November 2017.

Top on the list of trending searches was the late Nyeri Governor, Dr.Wahome Gakuru who passed on last week on Tuesday in a grisly road crash. Following the accident, Kenyans searched about the family and wife of the late governor.

Football was the second trending search item. Matches in the EPL, Serie A and World Cup Qualifiers topped this category: Arsenal Vs Mancity, Lazio vs Udinese and Ivory Coast Vs Morocco respectively.

The burial of the late Bishop Cornelius Kipngeno Korir was the third trending item on Google Search. The late Bishop of Eldoret Diocese who had passed away on October 30 was buried on Saturday. In a ceremony attended by the Government and Religious leaders, the late clergyman was eulogised as a peacemaker - having played a pivotal role in quelling tensions in Eldoret and the larger Rift Valley.

The week also saw Kenyans go online in search of the eyewitness challenge. The meme, became fourth trending item, after a man - who identified himself as Dennis Muigai Ngengi - claimed to have witnessed two high profile accidents in less than three weeks.  Dennis was interviewed on the scene of the Lake Nakuru plane crash and the accident of the late Nyeri Governor where he gave detailed accounts.

The fifth trending search was the texas church shooting. This is after a gunman (On November 5, 2017) opened fire on parishioners of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas - leading to the loss of lives for 25 people and an unborn child. The church has since been turned into a memorial.

On the entertainment scene, American Rapper Meek Mill, also drew search interest among Kenyans. Sixth on the list of trending searches, Meek Mill’s was last week sentenced to 2-4 years jail term following multiple probation violations. His arrest sparked outrage and rally protests by his supporters.

The week also saw Kenyans go online searching about  Don Moenand for his songs. Don, an American singer-songwriter, pastor, and producer of Christian worship music arrived in the country for a worship concert at CITAM, Karen. He became the seventh trending search for the week.

Following his appearance as a witness in two consecutive accidents, and his subsequent arrest, Dennis Muigai Ngengi, was the eighth trending search. Dennis was arrested last week on Thursday. After carrying out fingerprint forensic analysis, the police said Mr. Ngengi has eight previous criminal records.

The ninth trending search was on Britain's overseas aid ministerPriti Patel who quit on Wednesday over unauthorised meetings in Israel.

Closing the list of top 10 trending searches was the ex-Kilome MP,Harun Mwau. The former Assistant Minister had last week filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the outcome of the October 26th Presidential Elections.
