Officers attached to the widow have at the same time protested being misused by some members of the family saying they are being forced to do jobs they are not supposed to.
The officers told their bosses they are tired of being sent as messengers and drivers of some of the kin of Ms Mukami and want police boss Joseph Boinnet to come to their rescue. They say Mukami is sick and the family has taken advantage of the situation to misuse them.
According to Mukami's daughter Evelyn Kimathi, the driver who also acted as part of the elderly woman's security detail was the first to be disarmed and then withdrawn in unclear circumstances.
She said two other aides were withdrawn last week leaving the widow without any security. The Government, during former President Mwai Kibaki’s era offered ailing Mukami security personnel and two vehicles.
Meanwhile, the High Court at Milimani will today deliver its judgement in a high-profile case involving a senior police officer accused of killing a man in custody.
Former Ruaraka OCS Nahashon Mutua is charged with killing Martin Koome Manyara on the night of December 19, 2013, at Ruaraka Police Station within Nairobi County.
Martin Koome was arrested and booked at the Ruaraka Police Station following a domestic squabble with his wife in 2013. At about 11pm on December 19, 2013, Mutua, then Ruaraka Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS), took Koome out to the yard and thoroughly assaulted him with a ridged steel pipe.
Witnesses said Mutua also used a large barrel filled with water to simulate drowning. Koome sustained fatal injuries that led to his death.
Following this, Mutua is accused of hatching a scheme to cover up the murder. The prosecution alleges that Mutua faked a report insinuating that Koome was assaulted by his cellmates.
In the report Mutua implicated Kelvin Odhiambo - a cellmate and charged the latter with Martin’s murder. In May 2014, International Justice Mission (IJM) filed a complaint with Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) over the false charges against Kelvin.
The agency conducted an independent investigation and concluded that the OCS had framed Kelvin.
